Synthesis Folly - ARCH 680 Final

The culminating project of our Summer Studio intensive was intended as a synthesis of our earlier exploration into Earth, Water and Light and the phenomenology of Architecture. We were instructed to choose a product or natural resouce from Oregon and create a ~2000 SF folly to celebrate it on a hypothetical site. I chose agate which is found along the Oregon coastline. Programmatically, I chose to include a gallery to showcase small works of art made from agate, a community workshop and a split level meditation deck to showcase the healing properties of the stone. The concepts of translucence, striation and irregularity were my touchstones throughout the design process.
